This web site is dedicated to mainstream, true and cult-less Buddhism. Serious material is covered. The extremist NEW KADAMPA TRADITION is not recommended. Of course, we all have different training, experiences and opinions.
The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION filed a complaint against this web site for violating a 2014 trademark even though this web site began in 2008, the web site URL (nktworld.org) neither looks nor sounds like NEW KADAMPA TRADITION, and the letters 'nkt' were in wide use long before 2014 and are used today in hundreds of web sites. The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION now claims ownership of a term created and used by hundreds of others the past 20+ years.
Notably, the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's misleading web site URL is entirely different; it refers to a form of Buddhism active hundreds of years before THE NEW KADAMPA TRADITION entered into its business/political enterprise.
The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION never used the terms 'nktworld' or 'nktworld.org', although various professional unaffiliated web sites use the phrase 'nkt world'.
Contrary to its complaint, internet searches for NEW KADAMPA TRADITION do not lead to this web site. On the other hand, web searching for 'nktworld' or 'NEW KADAMPA TRADITION CONTROVERSY' will lead to thousands of web pages, including this web site. Undoubtedly and sadly, searches for these terms lead to memberships in and purchases from the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION. All this is not the fault of this web site but rather is how Google and other search engines work. Thus, the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's complaint would be better directed at Google and all other search engines, though such complaints would also be facetious.
It is profoundly stunning that Kelsang Gyatso, founder of the New KADAMPA TRADITION, decided to pursue this web site. More proof that he is not a real Buddhist. More proof that he is not a Buddha as advertised.
The complaint is reminiscent of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's 2012 threat against one of its greatest advocates and teachers, see here.
AMAZING NEWS TODAY!!!
The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION has decided that this web site is an EXISTENTIAL THREAT.
By the way, the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's trademarks for 'New Kadampa Tradition' and 'NKT' do not cover all uses of these terms, but are limited to "Arranging and conducting educational conferences; Book publishing; Educational services, namely, conducting classes, seminars, conferences, workshops, retreats, camps and field trips in the field of religion, buddhism, meditation and philosophy and distribution of training material in connection therewith; Meditation training; Publishing books in the field of buddhism, religion, philosophy and meditation; Publishing of books, magazines; Religious instruction services; Training services in the field of religion, buddhism, and meditation."
This web site is not involved with "Arranging and conducting educational conferences; Book publishing; Educational services, namely, conducting classes, seminars, conferences, workshops, retreats, camps and field trips in the field of religion, buddhism, meditation and philosophy and distribution of training material in connection therewith; Meditation training; Publishing books in the field of buddhism, religion, philosophy and meditation; Publishing of books, magazines; Religious instruction services; Training services in the field of religion, buddhism, and meditation."
Several other terms including the letters NKT have been granted trademarks for different uses.
Many web sites use the letters NKT or nkt. A few examples,
Google 'nkt', and you will find many more.
Few, if any, web pages of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION note a registered trademark. The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's home page does not. Not protecting a trademark on the owners own business documents weakens any trademark battle the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION entertains. Retroactive protection is ridiculous.
How could anyone ever be confused between nktworld.org and the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION, especially when internet searching for the latter does not produce web page links for the former, nktworld.org? They neither look nor sound alike.
Undoubtedly, the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION does not really have a trademark issue with this web site and would lose a trademark battle.
The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's attorney (the same one who filed the trademark that was submitted in 2013 and approved in 2014) claims "under penalty of pergury" that "The existence of the NKTworld.org domain has caused confusion for thousands of individuals searching for the New Kadampa Tradition online. The New Kadampa Tradition requests the immediate removal of the domain name NKTworld.org before more damages are incurred."
The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's attorney claims that the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION did not authorize the use of NKTworld.org. This is true. Also true is that the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION has said nothing for seven years until today.
The NEW KADAMPA TRADITION alleges that that the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION consists of hundreds of thousands of followers and centers around the world. This would make the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION one of the largest organizations in the world, generating far more than hundreds or so web site visits a day to its massive web site selling vacation plans, festivals, retreats, courses, books, cards, music etc, and offering hundreds of online media files. Not!
How could this small unpromoted web site affect this alleged giant? According to Google analysis, this web site ranks 19,120,007 in the world, has a value of $81 and produces 38 daily visitors, most of which are internet analytical inspections and contact from computers inside the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION, and presumably from the computer of the attorney filing the complaint for the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION.
Kadampa.org, the actual web site for the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION (which most certainly causes confusion) ranks 31,516 with 1,714 daily visitors, many of which are internet analytical inspections and web page editors working for the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION.
In its complaint, the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION claims that it has 1,200 centers in 40 countries. This unsubstantiated and unlikely claim means that on average each center has hundreds of followers. Highly unlikely. Most centers probably have at most a few dozen. Based on hundreds of internet reports, thousands have escaped from or discontinued participation with the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION.
Incredulous. Shocking. Even more incredulous and shocking is that an attorney, an officer of the court of the United States on behalf of the United States Constitution and United States law, so declares.
Shameful. And saddening. Based on internet descriptions of the attorney and family, the attorney had a much brighter future to look forward to, now tarnished. The attorney should have considered, after enabling NKT, what it would feel like to be an NKT target, something that may yet occur if the attorney leaves NKT.
Simply because someone says there are thousands of confused online searchers does not mean there are thousands of confused online searchers. Likewise for the claim in today's complaint that the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION has hundreds of thousands of followers.
For clarity, this web site has never represented iteself as the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION. If anything, those thousands that the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION refers to believe this web site is just the opposite. Contrary to today's complaint from the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION, this web site has never intended to confuse anyone. Again, this allegation too in the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's filed complaint is false.
All allegations against nktworld.org in its complaint are false.
Interestingly, on the internet, NKT is defined as "Expression of annoyance". Now that the New Kadampa Tradition perceives itself as nkt/NKT, this definition is appropriate for the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION.
As always, should anything false be found in this web site, report it on the Contact page. Never, including in today's action from the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION, has the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION ever reported anything false in this web site. Rather, a few followers, not dozens/hundreds/thousands, of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION write to this web site, who vehemently trash this web site. see here
Please also consider an analysis of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION here (analysis of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION starts at 40 minutes into the audio) and an HBO special here about Scientology (and consider the similar practice of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION exemplified in their complaint today against this web site). Consider the writings of two of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's leading advocates here.
Hundreds of journalist web sites have reported similar findings about the very public and very suspicious political organization known as the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION fighting against Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan state in India and those who have tried to escape the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION's grasp - all at taxpayer expense. Fortunately, the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION announced a few months ago that it would discontinue (again) its protest rallies against the Dalai Lama around the world.
99% of the content on nktworld.org was published before the term ' New Kadampa Tradition' was trademarked.
Virtually all leadership Tibetan Buddhist organizations and many other Buddhist organizations have spoken out against the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION and thus have suffered attacks and protest rallies directly and through a front group, and worse according to the Chief of Police in India.
Why? Because the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION bans all books and actual Buddhist lamas from properties of the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION and it publishes vitriolic attacks on Buddhists around the world and traumatized followers who found the courage to leave the widely reported abuse inside the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION.
Again, this web site urges the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION to end its assault on Buddism, Buddhist leaders and victims of participation in its 'centers'. The Dalai Lama and all the others attacked by the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION should be left alone. If they were, this web site would never have been created and would cease quickly if they were.
However, the NEW KADAMPA TRADITION today decided to extend its wrongful campaign.
