NKT LIE #103

Responding to what NKT calls a smear - that its 'main practice' involves Shugden - NKT asserts...

"Truth: This is not true. As with all Buddhist traditions, the main practice of the NKT is going for refuge to the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. As with all Mahayana Buddhist traditions, the main practice of the NKT is also generating bodhichitta. Because NKT practitioners also practice the Tantric path according to the instructions of Je Tsongkhapa, we rely on the Guru (Spiritual Guide), Yidam (Tantric personal Deity) and Protector in order to fulfil our bodhichitta wish to attain enlightenment. These are manifestations of the Three Jewels, as explained by Je Tsongkhapa.

Our main Dharma Protector is the Wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden. We also rely on other Dharma Protectors such as Palden Lhamo, Mahakala, Kinkara and Kalarupa.

While relying upon Dorje Shugden is very important to those who are trying to uphold Je Tsongkhapa's pure tradition, and especially the Ganden oral lineage, it is not the main practice of the NKT."

(the Ganden oral lineage refers to a school of Tibetan Buddhism, which NKT claims is degenerate)

The 'truth' NKT claims, again falsely.

To anyone watching NKT it has been obvious since 1996 that NKT's main practice is protecting a controversial Tibetan spirit named Shugen who is deployed to harm those seeking harmony among the various schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Although NKT claims that it is not a form of Tibetan or Tibetan Gelug Buddhism and that Tibetan Buddhism is degenerate, NKTites have spent tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars on planning, attending and publicizing Shugden protest rallies around the world.

NKT has never rallied around Shakyamuni, Tsongkhapa or mainstream Buddhism. (Tsongkhapa was a Tibetan Buddhist, which are not seen by NKT as corrupt). Based on its proclivity for ugly protests and Internet ridicule of its ex clergy and students who have left NKT, NKT does not generate bodhichitta. Having attended NKT rituals for 5 years myself, I have never observed or read about NKT's claim of devotion to Palden Lhamo, Mahakala, Kinkara and Kalarupa. Certainly, NKT has not attempted to protect them as they do Shugden.

Furthermore, although references to NKT's main practice of Shugenism are being removed from NKT web sites, even today, July 16, 2009, references can still be found on NKT web sites.

An example from NKT,

"Heart Jewel. This sadhana includes two practices revealed by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. The first is a special Guru yoga in which we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa, who himself is a manifestation of Manjushri. By relying upon this practice, we can purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings. In this way, we will naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path of Sutra and Tantra, and in particular we will attain a very special Dharma wisdom. The second practice is a method for relying upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugdän. Through this, we can overcome obstacles to our practice and create favourable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our Dharma realizations. If we rely upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugdän sincerely, our faith in Je Tsongkhapa will naturally increase and we will easily gain experience of the pure Buddhadharma transmitted directly to Je Tsongkhapa by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. These two practices are the very essence of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. If we practise them regularly and sincerely, we will reap a rich harvest of pure Dharma realizations, and eventually come to experience the supreme joy of full enlightenment. An extensive explanation of this sadhana can be found in the book Heart Jewel, by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso."

Notably, Tsongkhapa, one of Tibet's most prolific writers, never mentioned Shugden. Interestingly, NKT's reliance has not helped NKT "overcome obstacles to our practice and create favourable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our Dharma realizations."

Note NKT's comment, "These two practices are the very essence of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism."

Another example from NKT,

"This sadhana includes two practices revealed by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri...The second practice is a method for relying upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugdän...These two practices are the very essence of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. If we practise them regularly and sincerely, we shall reap a rich harvest of pure Dharma realizations, and eventually come to experience the supreme joy of full enlightenment."

Another example from NKT,

"Melodious Drum Victorious in all Directions. This practice consists of five parts: Praise to Manjushri, the Guru Yoga of Je Tsongkhapa, Self-generation as Heruka, the Fulfilling and Restoring Ritual of the General Protectors, and the Fulfilling and Restoring Ritual of the Great King Dorje Shugdän. Of these, the last is the principal practice.... Beings in this present time have a strong karmic link with Dorje Shugdän, and so he is the Dharma Protector who is most able to help them. Therefore it is said that, Now is the time to rely upon Dorje Shugdän...There are many brief and middling-length sadhanas of Dorje Shugdän, such as Heart Jewel and Wishfulfilling Jewel."

Another example from NKT,

"The Heart Practice of Kadampa Buddhism. Find out how to engage in the practice of Heart Jewel, which is the main practice of modern day Kadampas."

Kelsang Gyatso's book, Heart Jewel: The Essential Practices of Kadampa Buddhism, mentions only 2 essential practices for NKT - Guru Yoga of Tsongkhapa and Relying upon Shugden. In this book, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha are briefly listed as objects or refuge but never discussed as practices or main practices of NKT.

Incidentally, in this book, an incarnation of Shugden named Biwawa is noted for stopping the sun (i.e., world rotation) for 3 days to evade his bar bill and stopping flow of Ganges (the 'miracle' of stopping the sun/earth rotation for 3 days would wreak plague-like havoc on the global environment and the lives of trillions of living beings).

Falsely, the book's Acknowledgment section refers to Kelsang Gyatso as a Geshe and a fully realized Master.

Thus, NKT falsely claims that NKT's main/principle practice and essence is not its main/principle practice and essence. (incidentally, Kadampa Buddhism is a school of Tibetan Buddhism, which NKT proclaims it is not and that it is degenerate)

Untruth is truth at NKT.

 

Editors Note:
One of the largest reservoirs of NKT lies is published by NKT on what it calls New Kadampa Truth. Elsewhere on this web site it is explained why NKT is not New Kadampa, principally because NKT does not adhere to the principles of this school of Tibetan Buddhism which it despises and negates.

Among many of NKT's lies, NKT states as fact - though falsely - that one of the contributors to this web site has committed the illegal act of slander, has taken advantage of those damaged by NKT to manipulate their opinions and has never been to a NKT center. Correctly, NKT notes that this individual promotes a different tradition and teachers (in this case, Buddhism, Shakyamuni, Tsongkhapa, etc, though not NKT and Kelsang Gyatso).

NKT boasts that "Although the Survivors' group has a membership of 700+, it is a reliable estimate that about half of these are NKT practitioners...". The Survivors' group refers to a group of NKT survivors who found the courage to leave NKT after serious abuse from NKT but who now have become a favorite target for NKT ridicule.

Rule #2 of the Survivors' group could not be more clear: "No NKT members/followers/students are allowed." Emblematic of NKT, it is proud of its 350 liars who have joined the group.

Most of what NKT publishes in its 'truth' web site is false. Notably, no other group of people professing to be Buddhists publish such a web site, from which NKT spreads deceit and ridicules many living beings. No legitimate form of Buddhism would hire lawyers to say, "when one of the top five anti-defamation law firms in the world recently investigated both the NKT-IKBU and all the libel on the Internet against it, it came to the conclusion: "The New Kadampa Tradition is a respectable international organization whose reputation has been severely defamed.""

We invite credible examples of how NKT has been severely defamed other than the many examples for which NKT itself is responsible.
