In view of NKT's last 14 years of notoriety, why would anyone join NKT? Why do some stay after they learn the truth about NKT?
NKT mostly protests, ridicules and declares everyone else corrupt. NKT mostly hurts people. NKT's principle legacy, revenge. NKT's most notorious PR image, castigating the 75 year old Dalai Lama exiled from Tibet since 1959 and provoking Tibetans not following NKT extremism.
Maybe they are misled by Buddhist-like discussions and a yearning to live a compassionate life. Maybe some are attracted to easy 'ordination' into a clergy that dresses up like Tibetan monks and nuns. Some are drawn in by a government-subsidized home. Some find appeal in NKT's psychotherapy. Some are escaping from relationship and family failures.
Some are attracted to NKT's promises of a quick solution to the world's problems, quick relief for suffering, quickly becoming a Buddha..to NKT's quick fairy tale and NKT's very own fairy tale Buddha patriarch, Kelsang Gyatso, who NKT claims has been the only living Buddha for decades.
In the end, however, most come to realize their mistake, their hopes and dreams dashed. NKT neither offers nor explores compassion and non-political spirituality. Only the egocentic, arrogant and vindictive remain in NKT.
With time, NKT's inner self emerges. Hate, vengeful spirit worship, politics and profit at taxpayer expense.
